Stepping Into the Role of President

I have worked for four startups, three of which had successful exits and one of which is still independent - Ellevest, building a better financial world for women. Along the way, I have had my share of career crossroads to navigate; do I stay here, go there, or pursue a different path entirely?

As I step into the role of President at SwingSearch, it presented another reflection point to ask, ‘Why here?’, ‘Why now?’

The answer follows familiar themes we hear from candidates day in and day out.

  1. I want to be surrounded by good people

  2. I believe in the product and mission

The People

The people I have worked with in my career at Innovest, LearnVest, PayPerks, and Ellevest have shaped the person, the leader, and even the parent I am today. The team I now work with at SwingSearch does the same. The people you surround yourself with at work shape your whole self, not just your professional self, and I am grateful to be surrounded by the likes of Jennifer Loftus, Mandy Edmund, and the whole team at SwingSearch.

In our recruiting work, we find the more experienced the candidate (and the more chances at earning they have had), the more 'the people' rise in the ranking as the most important factor.

The Product & Its Quality

As a product lead & VP at some of NYC's beloved fintech startups, I had the fortune of building products I deeply believed in. I was scratching my own itch and building what my younger self needed in the form of financial apps, tracking, education, and investing products. I believed in the products.

I also quickly learned how important hiring is for early-stage startups. Success is dependent on the right team at the right time. From the get-go, I loved finding rising talent in unexpected places and building a team dynamic that brought out the best in people, and therefore the best in their performance. 3+ years working with SwingSearch and I know the quality of our service and our team is up to the challenge of helping Founders with their early-stage hiring.

Onwards!
